I was so impressed with the beautiful ice of glaciers in Patagonia that I decided to take a trip to one of them and photograph it up close. This is the Chilean Grey Glacier I shot with my Nikon 70-200mm f/4.0 lens. It's amazing how blue the ice is (or how well it reflects the blue light, I should say). The tour guide mentioned that this glacier will be gone in about 20 years because of the global warming. Enjoy while you can. This thing was probably there for thousands of years, so 20 years is just the blink of an eye. Mark Metternich and I set up a workshop there in April.

Spectacular. You wouldn't think they would look so blue.

The density of the ice is what causes the blue cast, other light can't make it out (I think that's how it works). Anyway, it's a beautiful shot. If we had been here 15,000 years ago, before global warming started melting the glaciers, they would not have been special because they were everywhere.

A dream of mine to go there one! The blue is intense. I bet you filled up a few memory cards there?

Checked out the gallery online, very impressive. Wasn't aware that South America had glacers. Thx for sharing.

Hey Greg,

A cool shot that looks really nice, though I think I would clone out that one real bright spot of blue towards the bottom in the middle.

I hope your upcoming workshop is a success for you. I am sure it will be lot's of fun and rewarding.

Jim

Its a pity so many of these are retreating at epic speed! I think this would also look cool taking the very bottom out with a 16:9 crop. . . and I'm really looking forward to the upcoming workshop!

Thank you Dave. I'm looking forward to running it. It's going to be great because of the time/month we are going. Plus the place is just beautiful
