p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Flowers from Glacier NP

I spent over a year with flower photography. For the past several months I have been traveling in the national parks and shooting mostly landscapes. Yesterday I shot flowers in Glacier NP. Quite a sight I am sure. I was on hands and knees crawling around the fields. People drove by, stopped, looked, shook their heads and departed. Anyway, I think I got some images I liked. I thought I would post 3 of them for feedback.

Thanks for any C&C.

I like them, they are not typical of the images you see in the flower forums, I like the fact that I was exploring a lot of detail in them and they held my interest well. Sometimes I wished to see the entire flower.

The last one has a bit of a painterly vibe to it.

#2 is my favorite here. Great color, sharpness, detail and good light on the petals.

I think the 'wrinkledness' of the purple flowers in #3 doesn't work for me.

I hesitate to comment from a laptop view, but I do enjoy all of these and the last the most. For me a photo is all about shape, texture and color. Color may be most important of all and the last one has the colors from the best part of the spectrum.

My suggestion would be to try out black and white to explore the textures. Color is not doing much for you here and it would help highlight rougher parts of the image.

I am sorry I am late in responding and thanking those of you who commented. I moved from the St Marys area to the Many Glacier area and lost my internet and phone coverage.

Anyway, thanks for all the comments. Ben, I am shocked. I know you are a specialist with big beautiful landscapes. I can hardly believe you liked my macros including dead and dying flowers. Your tastes have certainly broadened.

I do see that some of these have a cutoff feeling. To me that means I was not close enough. But I have included an additional image with 2 full flower heads.

I am not sure I will ever try B&W flowers. Flowers are all about color so maybe I just need to learn how to be more successful in featuring the color aspects.
