p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · CrossFit - CrossFit Artis' Duo Competition

With swalk16's recent CrossFit posting....thought I'd post a few of an ongoing local competition, CrossFit Artis' Duo. This competition consists of seven events where teams consisting of one male and one female compete against each other.

Like my previous post - still working on my LR techniques and really starting to adjust nicely from Aperture. Also - the Nikon 14-24/2.8 is one sweet lens! I need to quit renting it and just buy one.

I still need to master noise reduction within LR...so it's on my to do list.

Any C&C always welcomed!

Thanks for looking...

Good stuff here! I'm really liking the close-up wide angle perspective on some of these. I'm going to have to get out my wide angle for my next CF shoot.

#3, #6, #7, are my favorites.

Thanks. Yeppers - that Nikon 14-24/2.8 is one sweet lens, especially for these venues. It's one crazy sharp lens!

Here's a three-shot sequence.

Anyways...

I think my ideal setup for congested CrossFit competitions would be two high-ISO FX bodies....one with a 14-24 and the other with a 24-70. Just incase - I would keep the 70-200/2.8 by my side.

If you are bored - here is the entire set from this last weekend:

Look forward to seeing more.

Great shots. Those are some really good lenses. I'm about to go FX and look forward trying them out.

Great shots.

Thanks. Yep - can't go wrong with both of those. However - if I could only chose one....it would be the 14-24. I did some EXIF analysis on all my CrossFit shots using the 24-70 and most were were at 24mm or close enough.

This last competition - since it was so tight and not a lot of space....I used the 14-24 on my D700 and a 35mm DX on my D7000 to grab shots a little at a little more distance. Worked fine. I tried using a 50/1.8 on the D7000 but was too tight.

Anyways - thanks for commenting.

Are you on the floor or are you using a remote on a floor plate?

I'm on the floor, squatting, lying, and trying my best to stay out of the view of the athlete as well as trying not to be in the way of dropped barbells. Some of these where set on the floor and 'hope for the best' aimed towards the athlete. Once I thought orientation and focal length were set - I would engage the AF-On button with a thumb and then hit the shutter release during the lift. Usually I just take single shots at key motions.

I have used a plate with a ball mount - but had problems with remote triggering (IR) and focusing. I believe I know what I need to do to fix it, but haven't had the time to do it...especially since just placing the camera on the floor and orientating towards the action has been successful.
