I have a D800E and a full set of Zeiss Glass (21,35,50,85 and 135mm). I am in the market for a 200mm prime -- manual focus is quite ok

Having trouble wading through all the options. Looking for a suggestion to narrow my search. Anybody have a 200mm that they like, stands up well to the 800E ?

I shoot landscapes so not really looking for a 200mmF2 -- would be happy with an F4 etc and old or new does not matter -- looking for the best IQ

Eric, John Hinkey ("jhinkey") went through a ton of 180/200mm's. Maybe you can PM him or do a search - John shared his findings about different 200's on a couple of threads.
My choice would be the Leica Apo-Telyt-R 180/3.4. Fantastic lens, quite easy to find and to convert to F-mount.

Thanks ! -- Keh does not the 3.4 in stock (looking to price the lens) -- ebay has them in price from $680 - > $5K is there something else I need to know -- older versions better etc, particular models to look for ? With that price variation I would guess there is another parameter I need to know about.

Eric, I'm not an expert when it comes to Leica lenses. My copy (got it in "okay" shape in Germany for something like 470 Euros a couple of years back) is a model with E60-filter-thread. Older versions were made for Series 7.5 filters.
A search here or via google might give you some pointers about current prices, the Leitax-mount-conversion and such.
Please excuse my English, Georg.

Depending on what you shoot, you could consider the Sigma 180mm f/2.8 macro. The autofocus won't be fast, but you said you don't care if it's manual focus so that shouldn't be an issue. Sure, it's a bit slower than those f/2 chubbies, but having the ability to do macro might be nice depending on what you shoot, and from the limited reviews out there it sounds pretty sharp.

I've seen images from the 200m f2 mf they look amazing. There's a thread on here but I think he used a d600 with his. I don't know your limit but they go around $2500 usd or so.

The 200mm f4 AF Micro is also a great, sharp lens, with extremely good manual focus feel (although of course, with fairly long throw, as per its metier). I use mine strictly for macro work, so cannot swear for it's ability at longer distances, although I gather it does not suffer as much as some macro lenses do in this respect.

Not a cheap option, but more so than the 200 f2, for sure!

My advice is to wait for Photokina. It is possible that Zeiss will come with a longer tele. At least, that's something that a representative of Zeiss told in an interview about a year ago. That would complement your current Zeiss line.

I owned the 200mm f4 AF Micro and its manual focus handling was not nearly as good as that of my Zeiss lenses. In fact it was almost unusable because of the very little play that the MF-ring had. I see that the OP has a lot of Zeiss glass and I am sure this lens would be a huge disappointment for him. As it was for me in the end.

All -- thanks for the leads. The Leica glass looks nice -- have to do some research to see if that is the direction I want to go in.

Not looking for an F2 -- a 2.8, maybe, but the budget won't support the F2

Older zeiss 200mm 2.8 decent prices from what I read before it's fairly good.
