p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Dark beauty shots

I usually light my subjects with broad light and big light sources. The bigger, the better. A few weeks ago I thought that it would be nice to try to step out from my comfort zone and make some shots with short light and hard light sources. Linda was excited to be a model in this test and Anni did two excellent looks for the shoot. I'm really happy how these turned out

Here are few images of the first, more classical look:

#1 (hard light)

Not sure if it is the make-up or the PP, but her face looks plastic.

Thank you for the comment. Are you referring to the highlights? They are results of makeup which accentuates the gloss of the skin with small light sources. I've only done some spot healing to her skin and overal color adjustments for the whole images.

No. 1 is still broad lighting, 2 and 3 short. For me, No. 2 is your game-winner here but I think you could have made it about 2 stops darker and it would have really popped. You can possibly still do that with the raw file in LR. I really like that you're trying something new, and this came out really well. Sometimes when we try something new, we don't go as far into it as we can. I'm also picking up a orangish color cast here, but maybe it's just her tan and her hair? Overall, just loving it!

You are right. The set ccontains short light and hard light sources but not in the same photo since 2 and 3 are made with softboxes

This is a good idea. I'll give it a try!

The WB is a bit warmer than usual. I think it works well with the shiny skin and produces nie copper/bronze tone to the image.

Thank you for the comments!

#2 is my favourite. I think #1 might be improved by lightening her eyes (eye sockets are very dark)
