I just received a new EOS SL1 (100D). I bought it specifically to use with my EF 70-200/4L IS for travel. Man, it's small!

Here's a sample image, handheld with IS, pretty close to MFD. This is a 50% crop of the original RAW image. Works for me.

Nice, Jim! Now are you going to post a shot of the tiny SL1 hanging on the rear of that "giant" white lens?
I have a 70-200/4L IS myself, and love it. Haven't been able to justify getting a Rebel as a lightweight for travel, but hmm...

Thanks, Jess. I'll post some pics of the gears after the NED - ARG game is finished.

If it's any help, the 70-200/4L IS on SL1 looks about the same as the 70-200/2.8L IS II on 6D, relative size wise.

The white SL1 would look great on the EF 70-200/4L IS.

I've been curious about that little camera with a 40 pancake! Let me know how it handles if you have one!

My wife has an SL1 and uses the 40mm pancake all the time on it. Tiny in size, great performance. Some of the results she gets makes me question my big 'ole backpack full of big bodies and lenses....

(Go Netherlands!)

I've been looking at this camera for pack around also. I hope you keep reporting on it's use and sharing images.

It is a very different white and they may not look so great together in real life.

Plus, you'd see the side of the lens, not the top, with the SL1 in that orientation.

Looks like an interesting combo; little gem of a body. If you wanted the white to match, I'd look at a lenscoat for the lens...in white of course

We got the SL1 to be my wife's nominal SLR (she generally prefers a little P&S) but its been nice as a general around the house camera with the 15-85. This has been the Year of the puppies and the built in flash on the SL1 has captured some great indoor moments.

Like JC I find it works great with the 70-200 f4 IS and with a 1.4x. But it captures nearly the images with a 55-250 STM at a lot less weight. I tested it side by side with my 7D, while I still had it, on the 100-400 and the images were comperable. Great little body.

That is exactly how mine looked when it arrived back from Canon the first time.

Below is from a post I made in another SL1 thread I thought would be okay here:

FYI. I purchased as relatively small, inexpensive ($10), camera bag for a mirrorless camera and found that it is a perfect fit for the SL1 and 40mm pancake. You can wear it on your belt or with shoulder strap. So for the absolue smallest/lightest DSLR kit available, this is it.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00489O122/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I have a little larger bag for the SL1, 24 2.8 IS, and the 55-250 STM. It also makes for a nice, light, kit with some pretty good versatility.

Thanks
Steve

OK. Here's some size comnparison photos. The captions identify the gears, and include "equivalent" focal lengths for the crop bodies, enclosed within parantheses, "(~...)".

The first photo compares my new "light travel" kit (front row) with my "everyday" kit (back row).

The weather's not cooperating here today, and so I'll probably wait a few days before posting examples taken with the SL1.

Wow-great comparison shots jcowell!

I've had the SL1 for about a month. Bought it as an intermediate "upgrade" to my 20D while we all wait for the September "blitz".

As I've said now many times-for what I paid ($380 refurbished) I could hardly ask Canon for anything more.

Admittedly, I'm kinda in the dark ages coming from the 20D-but the SL1 as far as I can tell is a better camera in every respect-from AF speed, to ISO/noise, to RAW files. I've been pretty much using it as strictly a still camera, center AF point focus/recompose, no review, etc. Battery life is way beyond what it's listed at by not using "live view" and review features (I'm getting like 700 shots I think). The ONLY issue I've had was trying to shoot some bursts the buffering was terrible. Since I don't intend to use this camera for that type of shooting I don't see this as a problem.

When I get a chance, if the OP doesn't mind I may add some of my pics here, or maybe I'll start another thread...

Bottom line, for a super-light throw it in the car with a prime on it camera? SL1 fits the bill.

Hi Anthony,

Post away. I'd love to see your pics.

P.S. I use a 1DX and 1DIV for "burst" shooting. My first DSLR was a 20D. It rocks.

Thanks Jim...

Yea, my "burst days" are pretty much over. Used the 1D for sports awhile back but kids grew up and out of it and so did I....lol

I'm really itching to know what your thoughts are on that Fuji. Only thing that scares me about it is the EVF vs. OVF...

And again-GREAT shots of the comparisons above. Very well done.
