I really struggled with this theme. I wasn't sure what the difference between a selfie and a self portrait actually is, so I had to look it up.
Oxford Dictionary - A photograph that one has taken of oneself, typically one taken with a smartphone or webcam and uploaded to a social media website:
Urban Dictionary - A picture taken of yourself that is planned to be uploaded to Facebook, Myspace or any other sort of social networking website. You can usually see the person's arm holding out the camera in which case you can clearly tell that this person does not have any friends to take pictures of them so they resort to Myspace to find internet friends and post pictures of themselves, taken by themselves. A selfie is usually accompanied by a kissy face or the individual looking in a direction that is not towards the camera.
Wikipedia - A selfie is a self-portrait photograph, typically taken with a hand-held digital camera or camera phone. Selfies are often shared on social networking services such as Instagram, Snapchat, and Tumblr. They are often casual, and are typically taken either with a camera held at arm's length or in a mirror.
OK, so that lead me to examine the faces that grace my friends social media pages. The greatest majority of these pics are grainy, poorly lit and composed, and largely unflattering. It's obvious that they are in front of a mirror and/or are often shot from overhead by point and shoots or their phones.
I grabbed my point and shoot and here's what I got! Hope you like it, and my best to all who brave this challenging assignment! : D
