If far enough to necessitate travel fees do you personally:

(a) express they're additional, at cost, give some ideas
(b) show your usual fee plus the additional fee
(c) simply show the total price so they can't pick at it
(d) not charge anything because you cr*p gold dust.

"B"

I state that my posted fees cover travel up to 100 radius of my town. Anything over is charged at 50 cents a mile plus hotel and meals if needed but I lump all this into one "travel" fee

Discretion is used, but generally:
-Within 50 miles (one-way) free.
-Anything beyond that will be $1/mile for entire round trip. I feel that's fair, considering a ~4 hour round trip drive would translate to ~$250. Never had any complaints.
-Destination weddings or flights are custom quote obviously.

We almost never get a hotel room because we'd rather get home to our daughter.

You're charging less than the federal rate FYI which means you're losing money on travel.

If it'll take me longer than an hour to drive there, I charge a mileage fee. If it's longer than 2 hours away we usually get a hotel room but don't require the b&g to pay for this unless it's 3+ hours away which I feel is an obvious amount of travel time to not want to drive home at the end of the night.

I state all the fees in my quote so they know exactly what they're paying for.

Yeah what is it now 54 cents or something like that. Not that big a deal unless it was really far off, then I might adjust rate which I did for a commercial shoot involving a lot of travel a couple years ago.

I quote an additional fee, which is usually what it will cost us to travel plus a hassle tax on top. I don't really feel the need to itemize, though I will allow the client to pay for the hotel room in some circumstances, particularly if they are paying for a big room block at the actual hotel - I won't stay down the street for instance. No discounts.
