While the 400 5.6L may be considered a 'big white' physically it ain't. After just a few weeks of use I'm in love with mine, a great action lens that's a true featherweight but produces like a heavyweight. Easy on the wallet too. Whats not to like.

No IS.

My definition for "supertele":
10cm entrance pupil or larger (thats 3.93 inches in old money).

Entrance pupil = focal length / f-stop

300/2.8 - yes
200/2 - yes
400/4 yes
400/4.5 - no

And for a "big white" I see this supertele and the main color as requirement.
A real tele design is not crucial for my thinking.

Better yet, anything with a threaded front isn't considered a big white.

Oh, I would think the
Minolta 300mm f2.8 APO G HS - 114mm screw thread
SMC PENTAX-A* 1:2.8 400mm ED(IF) - 145mm screw thread
SMC PENTAX-FA * 1:4 600mm IF & ED - 150mm screw thread
and others are qualified as big white too :-)

Here's a few more with humongous filter thread sizes,

SMC Pentax-A* 300/2.8 ED - 112mm
SMC Pentax-FA* 300/2.8 ED - 112mm
SMC Pentax-A* 600/5.6 ED - 112mm
SMC Pentax-A* 1200/8 ED - 150mm

1) If it doesn't weight more than 3.18 KG (7 Lbs) than it is not a great white in my book. So the 300mm f2.8 and 400mm DO are out along with the 400mm f5.6. Those are just pretty good whites

2) As long as oil is priced in $ per barrels than whatever system of measures the US uses must be correct. Only when oil is priced in yen/L or wan/L or RMB/L will the US consider changing. We all know that whoever controls the oil (or the spice) controls the world right?
