p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Need recommendations (input) for optimizing a B&W project

Hey guys - I'm going to be doing two of my prints in B&W. I usually do color using an Epson 4000. I used the channel mixer and think I got a decent result converting to B&W. I'm looking to do these images in 20x30 or 24x36 inch sizes.

I see there are options for Illford fiber paper, RC paper, and now even printing on metal. I'm told the metal looks "stunning" but I have not seen them. I figure I can do some basic dust removal and a channel mixing layer. Then I'll send it off for someone with a better calibrated monitor and B&W printing experience to optimize and print it. These will be displayed in a medical office reception room and I would really like them to pop.

It's nice the metal can sort of be self framed and be pretty light. It's not cheep but if it takes it to that next level I'll make the investment. Looking for thoughts and opinions on printing options and what you think will do the most justice for these images.

we have not see B&W on metal, but some color images do indeed 'pop' on metal.

Nice images.

Been a while since I looked into metal for mono, but iirc there can be a cast that shows up in mono, depending on which metal you go with.

That may have changed since I looked a few years back. I do know that printing on metallic paper rendered a cast for mono and one metal provider had different offerings (cast/no cast) of metal.

Again, it's been a few years since I looked at metal, so take with a grain of salt, but for the price of metal, I'd want to be clear about what I was / was not getting (re: cast).

I'm not sure what you mean by metal.
There is metallic paper, and actual sheets of aluminum where the image is somehow impregnated into the metal.
Metallic paper has a sheen that does make the image pop. I've had a few prints done in BW and the effect is stunning. It's still paper though, and needs to be protected. Under glass the effect is less noticeable.
I've done some color prints on the aluminum, and they look great. They are also incredibly durable. They can even be washed off if necessary.
