Henry, are you privy to any info on how many V1's B&H received at first shipment vs how many V3's to compare?

F^ck them. They should have apologized for lots of their mistakes caused by their avarice for excessive profit$, such as D800/D800E left-AF issue and etc. I apologize for my bluntness if I have hurt fanboyz feelings.

Many will say "big deal", but a Japanese company officially apologizing really is a big deal. Hopefully it's the beginning of a new appreciation for the customer.

Funny, Nikon apologizes for supply shortages, while Leica has incorporated short-supply into their business model.

I laugh inside about a japanese apology. to me it means something totally different than actually being sorry.

Yawn. Indeed there are far more serious things to atone for than a fecking shortage of unwanted Nikon V3's!

Was there a real shortage in the first place? Or are they playing hard to get to boost sale?
The next thing is l hardly see any people using the Nikon 1 Series, even for Japanese tourists. They tend to lug along an entry level DSLR or a MFT or a NEX and a smartphone.
And if there was a real shortage for the 1 Series then why are they being sold at a discount together with free goodies.
Worst still...for those who owned the previous versions of the 1 Series said that they would have make a better choice by getting a MFT or a FujiFilm X Series.
I agree with those about apologizing for quality issues that buyers have encountered rather than for products that have not been sold.

Not a fanboy- my fav glass is a Sigma 35mm f/1.4. So you haven't hurt my feelings at all.

But let's face it, if it weren't for the motivation to be profitable, this apology would never have surfaced. Can you imagine a gummint entity apologizing for lousy service?

Really Nikon! You make our politicians seem genuine! You never apologised to the American customers who bought your D800 and D600 cameras! I'm still waiting!

I am thankful for the left-focus fiasco. I bought my D800 refurbished in the fire sale for the holiday season of 2012. Saved beaucoup bucks! Ask your local Vietnam era vet for the meaning!

+1
Agreed. I don't care, and likely no one other than Nikon dealers care, if there are zero V3s in the pipeline or if you kill off the model entirely...

(And, apologies to Henry as he is just the messenger trying to keep people informed.)

No apology to me is necessary. It was seeing this after their silence on the D800/D800E/D600 issue that I thought more newsworthy than the apology's contents.

Thanks Henry,

No time like the 'present' to make a change, especially a good one.

Nikon has a LOT of worse things to apologize for:

their lousey tech. support

their dropping of software

their requiring you to use TWO different versions of camera control for different Nikon bodies
