Canon knows.

Bummer!

I wouldn't send in the camera, unless it showed some effects from the drop. Like the mount or something is loose, or it has problems with other lenses.

I happen to have the 50 1.8 and the camer seems to function without issue.... I am sure the connector snapped, hopefully nothing wrong with the glass...

Call up canon and send it in. Sounds like it is going to need that rear end repaired at the very least and more than likely will need to have the optics recentered. Expect this to cost a pretty penny.

Just a guess, but it seems like almost any Canon repair will start in the $150-$200 range.

thanks PhotoTeacher. Never broke a lens before, do I just sent it in or do I need to call canon first?

I was hoping $300ish top... otherwise I am better off with used 24-105 for $550.

I sent my 24-105 in because it had a loose zoom. It was $250. I'm assuming they go in and clean and lube everything as well.

Its going to depend on what it needs. You cannot assume which parts are damaged. They do have a minimum, that may run around $300 for ordinary repairs. It takes a bit of labor to take it apart, find the damage, and then re-calibrate it. Not cheap.

Welcome to the club.

I dropped mine last year and had the same problem. I guess I was messing with the lens release button and didn't realize it - but the lens dropped from about 4 feet to a concrete floor.

I sent it in to Canon and they repaired it for $359 with CPS discount of about $110 - without the discount it would have been around $460 including shipping and sales tax

According to Canon: out of warranty Major Labor Charge $359, 2 day shipping & handling $14, sales tax $1.26, Total $374.26. Hopefully that all...
