Found an old thread from 2011 with a lot of confusion about sensor size and DOF. Tried to post to that thread, but it was archived. Thought I would try reigniting this discussion if anyone is interested. This is an interesting read on effect of sensor size. Basically two sensors with the same density, but different sizes, use the multiplier to figure actual DOF. So a 1.2 lens on a crop sensor has a DOF of 1.8 on ff. That's the way I understand the article, but please read and express you interpretation.

A f/1.2 lens on an APS-C 1.5x/1.6x CF sensor has about the same DOF as a f/1.8 lens on FF. The f/1.2 lens has the same brightness on both cameras.
