p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Zeiss ZA 16-35/2.8 with 'EA4 adapter on an a7R--anyone?

Anyone using the expensive combi captioned above? I've had the E-series 10-18/4 for a few days and have tested it, to determine that it's a pretty good 15mm/F8 UWA lens on the '7R, but since I have an 'EA4 adapter on the way, I went stupid and looked for the ZA 16-35/2.8, and then I went stupider and bought one.

I sure hope someone has some really positive things to say about the lens. javascript:void(0);

You should be able to tell us yourself soon enough. Looking forward to hearing about it.

I bought the 10-18 to fill the void until the FE16-35 surfaces. If its a mixed bag like the 24-70, I'm going laea4 and ZA 16-35 & 24-70 as well. Looking forward to seeing samples.

I think it's a good, but heavy, combo. I've seen trey ratcliff using it before in his paragliding video and the samples looked good (of course a little overcooked)

I used it a lot and liked it. The only issue would be the size and weight but that is not a deal breaker. The image quality is really good especially the corner sharpness. I have been stuck (voluntarily) on the Canon 17mm TS-E lately so have not used the 16-35 for a couple of months. I am thinking about switching back to the 16-35 because it is more versatile with the zoom. FWIW I shoot houses for a living.

I did come across some incidences where it will not auto focus and I have to switch to manual focus. That is usually in dark area with not much contrast.

Same here, I've had it for over a month and love it. For me the size and weight wasn't an issue, it feels really solid. I had a chance to try out the Canon 16-35 2.8 L ll and didn't really care for it, it was ok lens but felt cheap like and just didn't grab me as anything special and overpriced IMO. The Zeiss ZA satisfies my need for WA range and does it quite nicely, there is very little not to like about it. Quite good at 35mm too and has closer focus then the FE 35mm 2.8.

That's a very good lens on hi-res sensors. It's crackling sharp straight from the get go, but the global sharpness isn't there till closer to 5.6-11 depending on the FL. It's my favorite ultra wide for it's constant 2.8, sharp Zeiss-ness, takes filters, stabilization (natively) and nice range. The new Canon 16-35 f4 looks great too though...

I tried it and it worked great, but just too big/heavy for my liking.

I wanted a reduced camera bag size/weight, and while the A7 body helped a lot, I also wanted more compact glass.

If I already owned one, I'd no doubt use it, but I wouldn't otherwise spend that type of money for a pricey lens/adapter that isn't my ideal.

I'll personally wait for the FE 16-35
