p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Photokey Pro - Green screen question / composite photo

Hi, I'm wondering if anyone can offer a tip as to how to "ground" a subject in a composite photo. I'm in need of doing full body shots and the software does a great job of knocking out the background but when the subject is placed on the new background, they appear to be floating … how do I make it look natural?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You can add a shadow to the figure.

You need to add a shadow cast by the figure that looks realistic, i.e., is consistent with the lighting on the subject. And that shadow needs to "drape" across any objects in the new background in a realistic way.

One reason why green screen work is over rated, and much harder to do well than to just do.

About the worst thing you can do is to use any of the auto drop shadow options if you want anything looking vaguely realistic. Whenever I can I use a real shadow even if it's going over a new background or surface. Making a really realistic shadow is an art, which you'll soon see just by looking at all the horrible ones out there. Real looking shadows are almost always very dark where the subject meets the surface and then taper off.
