13,000 viewed my "why keep a D7K around" thread so consider this a public service post
for those still shootin' their D700...or on the fence about possibly givin' one a go.
Had to fight off some BRUTAL traffic to score my BIF this morning. Hey, you guys
are totally worth it

Taken with a screwy ED AF 300 f2.8 handheld SOOC
All but the 1st are heavy crops...

Timely post Will! I shoot a D700 and absolutely love it!

The past week I've been doing field work, which entails hiking out into black spruce-tamarack bogs and other wet forests to map native plant communities. I decided not to take my D700 and instead take my old Canon Rebel XT. Wow! I have no idea why I suffered with the XT for so many years - the autofocus struggled where the D700 would easily snap into focus. I could go on but my point is I am very fortunate to have my D700. At the time it was an expensive purchase but well worth it!

Seriously, the D700 facilitated a great improve in my skills; like someone mentioned a few years back, the D700 does not get in your way! Love it!

you KNOW my thoughts on the 700!

6 years shooting it and no urge to replace it... In fact, I even bought a second one used about 4 months ago.

With the D700, you just shoot.

I really would like to see an updated equivalent of this camera, because it IS just so good.

Nice shots! Im on my 2nd D700. Traded it last year for a D600 and 3 months later I'm back with the D700.

The D700...

For photographers who enjoy pleasing paying clients, not "latest technology" propeller-heads who love charts, reviews on the latest chest-protector fashions, etc.

If you cook as well as you photograph, I'll be there with my own tools!

Well, I ain't near good enough to charge for my pics, but my D700 w/ the 24/2 Nikkor Ai-S does a pretty good job of capturing the depth of sacrifice made by this Soldier and the 9000+ buried with him.

I've done enough spamming of how amazing the D700 is. I'll admit, since getting the DF I don't use my D700 nearly as much. It was my workhorse. When I bring it out, I get excited like a little kid.

Nice shots, Will.
Proving, once again, it's the photographer, not the gear. A camera is only as good as the person using it.
The D700 and D3 are still superb image machines.

"The D700 and D3 are still superb image machines"

Both are my babies and still making money. I prefer the speed, quieter shutter, dual CF slots, and being able to adjust ISO from the back on my D3. But I also like having the pop-up flash on my D700 for a little fill. I'm lucky to have them both. Here's one from the 700, 70-200VR at f/4 ISO 3200.

Sorry to hi-jack Monkey but couldn't resist to promote Nikon's gems.

with the direction the camera world is going in right now, i can honestly that the d700 will probably be my last DSLR. none of nikons new cameras interest me remotely (at least, none in my tax bracket!). she still performs, and i still get a smile whenever i review photos taken with it.

at 90k clicks, i hope she still has lots of life in her!!

If I did not get a deal on a D3 (and some votes of confidence towards that choice) my camera bag would hold a D700 now. I do believe it's a very capable camera and still worth the fairly high price used ones go for today.
