Hi there,

Can anyone tell me if Contax Carl Zeiss Tessar 45mm f/2.8 can be mounted and use with an adapter on a 5D3?

Been reading conflicting results... thank much in advance!

And the appeal of using a 1950s design, 4-element lens on a high resolution digital camera is??

(BTW, the 45mm Nikon pancake lens is supposed to be a Tessar design lens and you can adapt that to your Canon.)

It's an excellent lens and relatively inexpensive, so I'd say that's the appeal. It's also tiny and lightweight.

oeyvind- it shouldn't be a problem on the 5D3. It's been a while, so I might be forgetting a necessary fin shave, but the optics will be fine.

It's a little too tiny for me, but I like the draw...

I'm using it on 5D MkIII. It doesn't clear the infinity, however instead of mirror slap it does cause only a hang.
Having said that, in LV mode nothing stops you from focusing to infinity..

Some shots (100 Jahre version)

That's odd that it hangs up the 5DIII. I didn't have a problem with it on a DsIII that I can remember. Great shots, though.

Cheers. Taken quite some time ago.
1DsIII I presume? It does have a smaller mirror box compared to 5D series, 5D MkIII has 0.45mm (um)? smaller mirror box but it's still too large to clear, unfortunately...

Historically, the 1 Series Canon has had less issues with mirror clearance when used with C/Y lenses. The "shark fin" remains a problem, but that doesn't apply to the T45.

My 45/2.8 works fine on my 5D3. Not totally ZE 50/2 sharp. But the differences in drawing style are far larger than the small diff in sharpness.

Cool! Did you have to modify it to use on your 5D3?

I think the Tessar works, but you have to remove the last three elements.

I used the Tessar 45/2.8 on my 5D, 5DII, and 1DsIII with no interference problems.

The Canon 40/2.8 STM is a better lens (for a Canon camera).
