p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Nikon D7100 w/Sigma 18-35 f/1.8?

I'm considering adding the Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 to my set of lenses to give me a little more width. I'm currently shooting with a Nikon 24-120 f/4 as my main lens and have a Nikon 70-200 f/2.8 when I want more reach, but occasionally the 24mm is not wide enough on DX (I know, I was warned). I used to have a 12-24mm but sold it as I didn't use it enough (just used it for HS soccer/basketball team photos for my kids). I've read a lot of good things about the Sigma and was just wondering if anyone has any experience with either a D7100 or D7000. Thanks.

Rick

The 18-35 DX is equivalent to 27-55 in FOV.. Should have kept the 12-24, it's actually only about 6MM wider than the 24-120. I know, converting things gets confusing.

Edit to add: The 12-24 works out to approximately 18-36 in FOV. Now I need to go soak my head. All this figuring overheated my one working brain cell.

HOLD THE PRESSES! I just got out the trusty rusty D70 to double check myself. My math is screwy. The 24-120 is actually 36MM on the DX. Sorry, I forgot to convert the 24-120 above. Now you know why I'm not a mathematician. Sin Loi!

Remarkable zoom, early adopter on my D7K. Got it for low light rugrats/brewpubs
and it hasn't disappointed.

Remain calm. I didn't check your FOV numbers, all I know is what I see (or in this case, what I don't see). Possibly you are right about the 12-24. Thanks.

Thanks for the pics Will. I should have known you have the 18-35. It sure looks like a stellar performer.
I'll assume that is one of the grandchildren. Great shot.

I am missing my Nikon 12-24 F4 that I sold. I was recently at an event with my D7000 and a borrowed 20mm F2.8D which I also used to own. I don't use wide very often but when shooting a paid event I need a wide.

Thanks! Yup, that's Zoe at ~9 months...she loves grandpa's sweaty old hat. Go figure.

I did remain calm. I didn't rip out any (more) hair! It was only after I broke out the trusty rusty D70 and checked my figures against real world use that I realized my errror. I got real used to 24 at the wide end when I used the Tamron 24-135 on film with my N80 and Fuji Reala.

Yeah, you'll want 15mm (Canon) or 16mm (Nikon) to get 'wide', where the 18-35/1.8 Art obviously isn't. Still love the shots that members can get with it, though!

Yes, everything I've seen and heard here and reviews rave about the 18-35. Thanks for all the pics.

Now all I have to do is convince the Mrs. that we can pay for next semester's college bill for daughter #2 and get "the lens that WE need". Wish me luck (its a good thing its summer, the garage won't be cold at night).
