Looking for suggestions for a budget photo editing monitor (~300 USD or less). Of the two I have now, one is crap and the other is "meh" compared to my friends Asus ProArt. My video card (Asus Geforce GTX 770OC 2GB) has HDMI, DVI, or DP.

Thanks much for suggestions

Well, I use a Dell U2413 that I bought on sale, and it's not bad - it will certainly start to look dated as 4K gains traction.

it will all be determined by your tolerance for color accuracy and in the end if you print a lot.

There are more choices when you budget closer to $500, but some are cheaper on sale as mentioned. Get a monitor with an IPS panel and use a calibrator.

What exactly is a calibrator? Can you provide a link to some info?

+1. Heard Spyder4Pro has a better user interface. I currently own an X-Rite though.

I only have the older i1D2, that I use for laptops or other computers that are not too critical. My primary display has built in automatic calibration so there has not been a need to buy the latest and great calibrator.

Like others have said, you're going to need to get a calibrator. So that is going to be about $150, which doesn't leave much in your budget for an IPS monitor. The links below would be a start.

At least start with a calibrator on your current display.

Probably a good place to start. My viewsonic will probably get me by for a while
