This is one picture, i have watched almost all matches, and seen plenty of Nikon shooters.

Watching football and looking at the cameras in the background, we photgrapers are a silly breed

It varies by event and by sport. Sometimes you would ask the opposite question .

No, Canon is simply more popular....market share is larger....more people shoot Canon. Period.

No bias here, I'm a nikon guy...it's just the facts...

What kind of lame website is that? Practically every other sentence has a spelling or grammatical error.

People want to feel validated when they see others using the same brand of WHAT EVER it is... shoes, tooth paste, socks, cars and even cameras!

it really bears no relevance to what you can do with your own gear...

just shut up and let your photos speak for them selves... haha

Canon groups all their pros together at sporting events so it look like all the pros are using Canon.

I've yet to see a stab at a rational reason, so here's a few:

Canon's 1D X and 5D III make excellent sport cameras; Nikon as of yet has no answer for the 5D III (the closest is the D700). And Nikon has only just caught up (maybe) with the D4S to Canon's top-end AF setup. Hopefully that release along with the rumored D800S will get them back into gear.

But Canon having the superior bodies is one thing- pick literally any fast pro lens, zoom or prime or supertelephoto prime, and Canon is where it's at with their flourite lenses and lightweight construction. Having both makes for a system that while not at all superior to Nikon by any great measure, you still have a system that excels in just the right places to significantly raise the chances for one to 'get the shot'.

Note for the winter Olympics Canon was the clear majority, and at the last Super Bowl Nikon was pretty rare indeed.

Now, I'm not here to bash Nikon, which I've said in the past- I advocate using the right tool for the job, and when it comes to things that move in the pro arena, the right combination of tools is probably Canon.

But ask what I'd recommend to a newbie? Nikon all the way. Want to shoot stuff far away that moves with an inexpensive kit? D7000 + 150-600, get some. And want to go landscaping? D800E and 14-24G are unbeatable. Just saying

Well you might be one "wild and crazy guy" but this thread hasn't moved the interest meter much.

And the winner is... Japan!

It is an old article, but it shows that it's an entertaining tussle between the big boys, for some.
