On 4/3 Rumor (FT4):

http://www.43rumors.com/category/rumor/

I do believe Olympus will officially announce the release of their 3 new PRO lenses in Photokina in September i.e. 40-150/2.8, 7-14/2.8 and 300/4. This is exciting news for m43 shooters. I will be an early adopter on all 3 lenses as I have full confidence that all 3 lenses will be superb IQ-wise.

Not really a rumor since they're already listed on B&H.

Can't wait for a 600mm equivalent. I will definitely buy with a EM1 (or newer body if available then) to replace my EM5.

Me too, as I do a fair bit of bird photography - mostly in Bosque del Apache. Would be great lens to take to Africa too. Now where's the 1.4x TC to round things off?

Seriously. I want to use one with the 75mm.

When these lenses get released, I will no longer have need for my Canon equipment. I expect that AF-C will not be as good compared to Canon, but that will change given more time. In the interim the size and weight savings will make up for any AF deficiencies. I can't wait for these lenses!

By the way, I also fully expect (based upon Olympus history) that these new pro lenses will have excellent IQ.

That 40-150 is a beast in M43 land. I'm sure it'll rock, but "size advantage" isn't really one of its strong suits

That said - I wish I had one.

I don't know...it's a hell of a lot smaller than something like the Sigma 100-300 f4 or 120-300 f2.8. (Trying to give the equivalence police some options. ;-) )

Size advantage over comparable FF lenses? Yes, I think there will be a clear advantage (depending on your point of view), especially with the 300 f/4. If I can replace my 500mm f/4 IS with a 300mm lens and get a similar FOV on m43, that's size advantage in BIG way.

It's all relative. Compared to the Panasonic 35-100 yes, it's big and heavy. Compared to a 70-200 DSLR it's small and light. And yes, when you compare the 600/4 to the 600/4 DSLR version, the size, weight and price difference will be mind-boggling. And this will be a serious piece of glass … not like the consumer-grade zoom lenses i.e. 75-100 or 100-300. IQ-wise it should be as good as the 75/1.8 lens.

Great. Will that be posts here or on your website?

I know of at least 2 votes for updates on Olympus.

I'll be doing full articles on my site, but some discussion here. I'll be covering Olympus, Panasonic, Fuji, Sony, Zeiss, Leica, and probably a bunch more.

It'd have to be what, f/1.4 to get the same amount of light to the sensor and the same DOF control? I always get confused with logarithms. As it stands, at the long end, it'll gather as much light as your average 70-300; so comparing it to the 70-300L on the 1D X would seem to make sense, given the similar resolution, and that the Canon lens is the only 'pro' 70-300. I honestly expect the new Oly to do a bit better, if only because it'll technically be a higher-end optic in their line, versus where the 70-300L sits in Canon's line (it's no 70-200/4).

Found that my adapted, 1.4xtended Canon 70-200 2.8 II works quite well on my E-M10 for now until I can get my hands on some of those 600 equivalents. Should be interesting to see the results.

That 70-200L II + 1.4x TC is a superb combo and as long as you can get MF and focus peaking to work properly you should get some fine results. I am expecting the 300/4 to be just as sharp but now you have a very decent and accurate AF to work with, which is huge.

I'm so very excited for the pro 40-150. I really would like a refurb 12-40/2.8, too, but I think the longer focal length would work better for me and I just bought the 45/1.8 refurb. And a 50/1.8 OM + adapter. And a 40-150 kit lens. I think I'll have some selling to do in the future...

Isn't that going to be more like a 600/8 (300/4) vs. 600/4 @ DOF?

Interesting (and tempting to revisit) additions to the m4/3 lineup for sure (especially the UWA). I'm not sure I followed the 4/3 to m4/3 change that occurred along the way, at least its impact on the 4/3 glass. These were (are) some pretty sweet glass for the 4/3 that never replicated to the m4/3. Having a 300/4 come out years after the 300/2.8 seems ? And while 2.8 is nice ... why are there no 2.0's m4/3 like the 4/3 counterparts ?

I had my sights on the E-3 and some of the 4/3 glass ... till they went m4/3. I never really understood the what / why it seemed to die on the vine the way it did or the rationale for the glass to not follow along with the change. I had hopes that these 4/3 lenses would simply be retooled for the m4/3, but they never were afaik. I understand that the adapter is available (with limitations iirc), but I still don't follow why they could make glass like this for 4/3, but not for m4/3?

14-35/2.0
35-100/2.0
150/2.0
90-250/2.8
300/2.8
