Will a vml provide enough power to cook rice in a small rice cooker or use for a microwave.

You need to know what the wattage is for the appliance and then what the maximum "continuous" wattage rating is for the VLM. Most appliances that heat are typically 500 or more watts so I doubt it. The VLM is not rated for higher the 120 watt continuous loads.

You also need to know the surge requirement of what you're powering. Some things have a very high initial surge required and then quickly settle down into their continous draw.

I have a high quality 1000 watt pure sine wave inverter at home that will not run a single AB800 since the initial surge trips it out, so they have done something nifty to the VML's to make them handle it.

Even though on a continuous load, my home inverter will laugh at draws that would fry the vml - it's got 800 amp hours of batteries hooked up to it.

That rice cooker will cook the vml, no doubt. It's probably 500 watts continuous for half an hour or something. Don't even try!

Probably good for charging your laptop or iphone though

I'd suggest something like this instead:

Honda Portable Generator

What Brian said. One of the best purchases I've ever made.
