Canon's been really pushing the fake battery and charger issue and how dangerous it can be. The problem is they haven't told us how to tell if we're using ripoff equipment. Or have they? Any info?

Don't confuse this "fake" battery issue... i.e. counterfeit batteries pretending to be the genuine Canon article --- with legitimate 3rd-party batteries and chargers sold under their own brands. The former can be dangerous garbage while many of the latter are perfectly usable and safe yet inexpensive alternatives.

pKai is correct. Try 3rd party batteries sold by Blue Nook, the Wasabi brand. I get at least 20% more images per charge than I get with true Canon batteries. Besides, the Wasabi batteries are chipped and one can register them in camera.
