p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Mt Hood - Fail

So the forecast was for clear skies and comfortable weather. I had this image in my head of the top of Hood with a glowing tent on the snow and the stars in the sky. The moon was about 40% so I thought it would provide enough light to show the mountain in its glory. I figured it was a great night to attempt it. So I loaded up my camping gear and my skis and headed up above Timberline lodge after work. After I had climbed about half way up I remembered I forgot my sleeping pad! I started to doubt my plan and wonder if I could sleep on my backpack and keep warm. As I climbed higher I notice the wind was picking up stronger and stronger. By the time I got to where I was planning on camping it was blowing a gale. I started taking pictures and the wind was so strong it was vibrating the tripod. I didn't think I could possible get it steady enough to take a star photo. I have a lightweight tent and I was afraid to put it up by myself thinking it would blow away. It was also much colder than I expected with the snow already starting to freeze even though the sun was still up.

I took some shots of sunset and decided to ski down in the twilight with my tail between my legs. I will wait for another day. Thanks for looking and
C and C welcome Cheers Brian

Brian,
Get your stuff together and your tail back up and go back up there! Beautiful place, and what you got is beautiful. Illumination Rock is my favorite.

Hey Brian,

Definitely you made a smart choice to come back down. When one gets that high up and remote, the difference between life and death is really a very slim line.. We hear stories all the time of climbers or hikers dying on Hood or other similar peaks. So good choice on packing it up for another day.

As it is, your #2 shot is super cool. That is a keeper in my book and made the trip worthwhile all by itself. #1 is pretty cool, but I would clone out that vapor trail.

You got some really good shots regardless! You can try another day. There is still a LOT of snow on the mountain, wow.

Like the soft warm colors on the second one and the multiple transitions present - soft/hard, cold/warm. The processing is just right too - nice natural colors, no nuclear reds and blues. No contrails too! No shame in bailing and living to shoot another day. Many people have died on Mt. Hood because of "bravery".

Great lighting on all shots. My favorite is the last one. I love the shadows and the sun shining on the mountain.
