Actually a slime mould colony some 50mm across on a log of rotten wood at the bottom of my garden. It was rather three-dimensional, with undulations, so not everything is in focus.

Most of the extensive area of fruiting bodies was a monoculture or one kind or other. I will post some more-detailed higher magnification images this week.

Thanks. This kind of thing generally last only a few hours, maybe a couple of days, in the delicate stage and then forms a tough, resistant stage. So take a picture or two as soon as you find it.
