I'm working to improve my night sky photography & processing. Any and all critiques welcome! Shot w/TSE-17 F4, 30 sec, ISO6400. Light painting using a CTO gel on a neutral LED flashlight.

I prefer more old fashioned incandescent flashlights for light painting. I'm no expert but I think a gradual transition from dark to light at the bottom might look nicer.

Other than that, I think it's pretty good!

The sky is nice, but I agree with Carr on the light painting. that being said, the painting shows an excellent exposure, great focus, and low noise. maybe if you had a light on the left as well? I don't know since I can't do any decent light painting - yours is much better than anything I've tried.

I know nothing of the technique, but the results are quite stunning!

Hey Steve,

Nice work with the stars, but Craig hit the nail on the head here. A softer transition between the lit areas and the dark would really have worked well. The distinct cut off between light and dark becomes a distraction.

Thanks guys.

I agree totally on the potential benefits of a softer transition. Something to try next time I'm in the area.

Critiques much appreciated,
Steve

I think the abrupt transition adds drama. These shots are so hard to do- great job.

Impressive shot..personally I would prefer little less exposure on the foreground rocks.. I am not an expert in the technique..

I also agree with Landslide's view that "the abrupt transition adds drama".
