My 5d Mark III seems to be at half speed on high. It should be 6fps. Its more like three.
Is there any thing in camera I need to turn off or on?
Thanks
Jack Harper

There should be a little icon on the top LCD that has three cards with a letter (H for high and S slow) I believe. I don't have my camera near me, but I believe if you press the AF Drive button on the top of the camera then scroll the shutter wheel over until it shows the high speed setting

is it definately in High speed ? .
dont forget there is Silent mode and normal mode which are both about 3fps

also im not with my 5D3 at the moment but I think I remember it only does 6fps in TV/AV/M modes (I may be wrong on that though )

In-camera processing like HDR, noise reduction and highlight tone priority may slow things down.
Also the file type/size might be an issue.
To get the highest FPS for the longest number of shots, you can shoot just high resolution JPEGs.
To keep the highest quality just shoot RAW.
RAW + JPEGs will slow things down.
Don't save to the SD card, in fact don't put a SD card in at all. It's too slow for fast shooting.

Also, check your AF. Servo AI will allow for continuous shooting.

writing to both cards will slow you down. Writing to SD will slow you down. Use the fastest CF (only) card possible.

Also, you might want to check your focus settings for first frame and next frame. Out of the box, I believe the 5DM3 is set to achieve focus before taking the frame...which can slow down FPS. You can change the priority to shutter/release which will make the mirror slap faster

There are a bunch of reasons why fps may be slower than 6. They are documented in the manual in a bunch of places. I agree with the above, in addition, aperture, iso and ss could all affect fps. Noise reduction will slow this down , for jogs, but not sure about RAW. Another reason not mentioned here but is a definite factor is battery power - if your battery is even slightly down, fps may suffer.
Regards,
Kevin

Thanks for all the help. focus is on the rear button ,so there is no focus on shutter button.
I made some changes on AI Servo in camera menu and tried some newer batteries and it seems to be ok.I was shooting at TV 4000 at f5.6 ISO was 1250.
Again thanks for help

I do not have a 5D3 yet but shopping for good used one. In doing my research found references that suggest the camera slows to half speed when batteries are at 50%.

Is there a CF that limits your max FPS? I ran afoul of that on my 1d3.

Low battery rears its ugly head again I'll bet.
Faster CF card will simply extend your buffer - with the 1000x CF cards I use for ML raw video, I get 30-32 shots straight before the buffer slows. Yep, 5 full seconds of clickity-clack.

If your battery is less than 50% charged your FPS will decrease.

I discovered the same finding a few weeks ago. I wish Canon sold extra cartridges for the BG-E11 grip, would make switching out half-dead batteries with a fresh pair alot faster/easier.

Have you contacted canon ? maybe they would sell the part . I mean if the existing one was to break would they expect you to junk the whole grip ? (actually knowing canon they probably do ) .

Of course you have the AA holder as well . Ive never tried AA's in my 5D3 but I've seen reports that it works quite well .

EDIT:
Just spoke to a canon service agent in London and yes you can order the LP-E6 holder for the BG-E11 . No idea how much though .

Don't put an SD card in unless you are using the SD and have no other option. Any SD card installed (using it or not) makes the CF dog slow. The SD slot is slow and does not support fast SD cards.

there are other threads on here that contradict that view . I cant find it at the moment but a recent thread has a link to a visual of audio that shows there is no slow down just because a SD card is present

If you put it on silent mode, it will only do 3 fps. Could this be the problem?
