Wish they would have come out with the 135mm f1.8 first. The 85mm from Sigma is already damn good in the meantime.

True, although this will drive the current 85 1.4 price down so it's a win-win situation, except for those who already have it

The 50mm f/1.4 was already damn good too. Another 135mm f/1.8 would be awesome though. I wonder how it would stack up to the amazing ZA 135mm f/1.8 for Sony.

Well this is going to hold me back from buying the current model ... and price will decide if I buy the ART or the current one after the price adjustment.

A friend of mine showed sample photos back when he was testing out a preproduction 50 1.4 Art. He didn't mean to let it slip(or maybe he did) but I saw the 85 Art in a photo as well. I wonder how it will stack up to the 85 1.4g which I recently purchased?

I am really hopping for a new super telephoto from Sigma. After that a 135 f1.8 would be really nice.

I will definitely be rooting for Sigma with the rumored 24mm and 85mm f1.4s and will be very curious to see there performance, but I doubt I will be looking to replace or supplement my existing Nikon 24mm f1.4 g or 85mm f1.4g.

This is pretty common for Sigma. Make a lens , then update it every year or two with a new coating, or a new motor in it, raise the price a bit and trash the resale value of the previous model. I have only one Sigma lens and the only way it will ever leave my bag is if I give it away. It has depreciated to $0 over the last 8 years because 4 replacement models have been made since it came out.

They may make nice lenses now, but be ready to lose your shirt when the replacement comes in a couple years.

cough...D4s...cough

I think it's a trend we see with everything these days and it's not particular to Sigma. The only guys that are overdoing it are Sony IMO. The ART series is a new product line with new technology so it's going to affect their whole line of lenses, just like how the AF-S/g series from Nikon affected all of their AF-D line, which was basically their entire line up at the time.

Well the art lenses are killing it so they may even update more than just the motor and coatings. The 50mm has a whole different optical formula than the previous model. Maybe they'll push the envelop with this one since zeiss stated that the next Otus is going to be the 85mm. Personally I'd like to see them update the 12-24 and make it actually compete or beat the Nikon 14-24. I like uwa stuff. I'm actually waiting for the rumored 24-70mm f2 if it's half way decent and isn't 2k I'll pick that up. Not a huge fan of nikons 24-70mm lens maybe it was just the copy I had rented but I like the older "beast" 28-70mm. Phenomenal lens at a nice price.

If Sigma makes a 24/1.4 and 135/1.8 my credit card will melt.

As a Nikon shooter, who never buys third party lenses, I am rooting for Sigma to "shake things up" even further with their latest Art series of lenses. I don't need or want F1.4 lenses but I do like excellent F1.8 and F2 lenses, especially for their smaller size, flare resistence and price. I once trusted Nikon to make the best but since lens reviews are so prevelent now, Nikon has become "more exposed".

not just nikon canon as well. The sigma 50mm doesn't quite kick the otus' butt but it does kick some nikon and canon rear.

I bought a couple sigmas back when I had my D200 and they weren't the greatest. I had two of the 18-200 os lenses and somehow both fried. I guess they stepped up their game since those days

Meh. I'm looking forward to a Nikon 135mm f/1.8G. Even if Sigma DOES make a 135 ART, I will not buy it. I'm a Hardcore Noink fan lol
