p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · File-Based Viewer for Showcasing Images

Can anyone recommend a file-based image viewer that can be used to showcase images being taken at an event without any intervention needed to let the viewer see new images as they are being added?

Some background on what my "ideal" would be...

I'm going to be shooting a weekend-long hockey tournament. For hours at a time, there is only one minute between each game, so I need to have a system where people can look at the images and place orders for prints without me having to be involved.

What I want is to be able to import photos onto a laptop where I'm shooting (I use Aperture day-to-day) and then export the photos from that laptop to a desktop with two monitors in the main concourse area.

I'd need a viewer running on that desktop that can automatically pick up any new images that I export over and don't have to be explicitly imported into the viewer's library. As a result, my preference would be for it to be file-based. I've used Aperture's hot folders in the past and found them to be less than 100% reliable.

I'd also like the viewer to be idiot-proof where I don't need a keyboard and the screen layout never changes (e.g. double-clicking an image doesn't change from directory listing to single image). On one screen, there will be a list of the folders that are available to look at and a list of their contents. On the other screen, there will be a full screen view of the selected image. On one or the other screen, it must also be clear what the name of the selected file is so that an order can be placed.

Any suggestions? If I can't have a file-based solution, would Lightroom be a better, more reliable option than Aperture?

Thanks,
Graham.
