p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · FDn 35mm f2 - Noise inside the lens

Hi everyone,

I just received an FDn 35mm f2 that I had purchased on eBay. The glass is it excellent condition, and so is the exterior. It's very nice and sharp on my A7. The only cause for concern is that when I hold the lens up to my ear and move it, I hear noises inside. I'm not shaking the lens, but just slowly turning it in different directions. It doesn't sound or feel like a loose element, or anything large. It almost sounds as if there are one or two ball bearings or other small objects that are rolling around in there. It doesn't seem like there's any effect on the use of the zoom or aperture rings, as they are both smooth and without hiccups.

Is this a cause for concern? Has anyone else experienced anything like this?

I'm new to FD lenses, so any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

Yep, it's pretty common with FDn lenses. There is a long row of bearings in there, and, if one goes missing, then they all rattle around. It shouldn't be a problem, from what I understand.
