Our 6 month old has finally gotten his sitting base stable enough to the point where I feel comfortable having him pose for a shot. And the weather finally broke 70F here, so I had to take him out. Sun sets after 8, and these were both taken at around 5, but the sun kept passing through behind clouds giving me a little better light. C&C welcome!

Edit:no idea why those links aren't working...
Edit2: deleting the "s" from https did the trick!

these are exceptionally nice! Great job!

By the way, the reason the pics didn't imbed is the "s" after "http". Flickr began doing that a year or two ago when you pull the tag, adding that "s" to the "http". Just delete the "s" and the pictures will show.

Second is super and he's giving you a great look. Isn't it great when they can sit by themselves, makes photographing them so much easier and you get way better results.

It'd be better if you would pick a (cloth?) diaper that didn't stick out so much. Also, drool on the first picture (should be easy to clone out). The outfit is a bit bunched up (too small?). The light is nice and you did a good job of getting lower. Second photo would have been a lot stronger if you could have gotten his head better centered.

Yeah, agree on all points. This was an impromptu photoshoot as his mother needed a break, so I just grabbed him and the camera and headed to the park. Diaper and onesie were just what he was already wearing. I could probably selectively color the diaper to something less noticeable, but between that and the drool this is just how he always is, so it has that nostalgic aspect too...

For the second photo and centering, I was on my belly with my elbows on the ground, and the camera was previously pointed in the right direction. But my head was actually above the camera interacting with him so I could get a good reaction. I was pulling the trigger blind, so between my hand movement and his head movement, most of the shots didn't center perfectly...If anyone has any tips on that, I'd love to hear them!

love the pictures for what they are. it really does make a huge difference in the pictures you can get from him when they start sitting.

I do exactly what you do, I line up the camera and peek my head out from behind to get his attention and fire blindly with my son. The only thing I can think of is having something on the camera on axis to get his attention or someone behind the camera right above it to get him to smile.

Great shots. He is so cute that you may want to crop even tighter to make him the pure focus, and then see if you like it.

Here's a tighter crop of the bridge one. It let me clean up the trees/sky in the background a little more. I like them both for different reasons, but the tighter crop is nice.

I think #2 would be better if the baby was closer in the frame, not cropped in. You know what i mean?
