Hey guys,
figured this might be beneficial to those of you w/ flex tt5 or similar shaped transmitters that don't really have a good way to mount up to a strobe like an alien bees unit.
velcro doesn't work b/c there/s not really a good place to put it w/o cover up the buttons.
my solution is pretty simple:
use the set screw hole on the strobe that's used to hold an umbrella shaft.
the size of this hole is 5/32.
hardware stores sell a 5/32 to 5/16 coupler, which is slightly larger than the 1/4 thread on most hot shoes.
so you'll also need a 5/16 thread tap.
get a 5/32 stud (around an inch long)
tap the hole in the hot shoe to 5/16, and screw in the coupler/stud combo into the hot shoe.
then screw this into the umbrella set screw hole.
it mounts dead center in the front top of the strobe and is a very secure mount vs using the ghetto method involving velcro strips and lots of swearing when it lets go and sends your $100+ transceiver into the pavement.
