I had the opportunity to shoot a rehearsal of Giselle. This was put on by the Jeunesse Classique Ballet company comprised of young local dancers and a few more mature dancers in the principle roles, some from other parts of the country. The production was rather good. The conversation and yelling during rehearsal was quite entertaining with the dance masters yelling at the young girls "toe out, get in line, smile, more energy" etc.
Lighting was rather reasonable for the first act. On the other hand, lighting for the second act was rather odd with overly bright projections of trees making it difficult to see (and photograph) the dancers Normally, for Giselle, the second act is quite darkly lit for background and the white clad dancers stand out.
Here is a bunch of images (too may of course). The first three images are under work lights before the rehearsal started. I actually liked this better than the production lighting. I also seem to be in a b&w mood lately ... I prefer b&w to colour ... and only put some of these images in colour to prove that my camera does indeed shoot colour.
