p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · A springtime hike in Arizona

Did the Badger Spring hike the other day. What an amazing riparian habitat just north of Phoenix. Thanks for looking and for any comments.

I think you did a good job with what you were working with. I guess we are always looking out of the jaw dropping shots of crazy sunsets and sunrises, I know I easily fall into that. Especially here, we have gotten spoiled with such great images.

But with that said, these are some very nicely done shots. The light is at a lower angle, and it looks like you worked it really nicely. The processing looks very natural too, and that is always a plus. #2 and 4 would be my favorites from these.

Jim

Thank you for your comments! Yes, it can be pretty intimidating posting pics on here.

It's a nice set that gives a good idea that Arizona is not only about rocks and cacti.
Now, my comments.
With your #1, I think if you can crop of the right part of the frame, it will bring out the interesting line the tree trunks make.
In #2, I suggest cropping off left part with the rocks, they do not add any beauty to the composition.
#3 is good as is but I would make dof even more shallow, and maybe use more contra-light for a nice bokeh.
With #4, either more dof to have everything well defined, or less, to wash the background away. Currently, only the middle is sharp, so there is no visual anchor for this otherwise nicely composed image.
Sasha.

I rather like the unusual composition of the first one. You have made good use of the line of the trees. The other shots have a combination of that same refreshing rule breaking, but also something untidy. The same style, with a bit more care in the compositions, could be an interesting recipe.

that picture by the bank of the stream/river is some good stuff!

I lugged around my D300 with 55-300 and 11-16 lenses. Ya, it was a lot for the 8 mile hike.
