I have to get out this weekend and use my lens more on my d800e. The photos in this thread are surely inspiring. Great job everyone.

I was a obedient student and never go beyond f/11 to avoid diffraction. As with f/16s and f/22s, how do guys handle it?

Cross-post with d600 thread, but I just wanted to prove that not every shot turns out as awesome as the ones above

I can only speak for myself, but I personally try to avoid anything above F/11 most of the time. The one shot I have here that is F/16 (the starburst arch) was a focus blended shot - the background was F/16 for the benefit of a better starburst, the arch was F/8 or 9.5 (somewhere in there). In fact, I usually turn to focus blending if I can't get everything sharp at F8~11.

That said, if you need everything in the frame sharp from front to back, and blending isn't an option, then go for F16 or 22. IMO it's better to deal with the diffraction than a shot ruined by improper focus.

I have never had a problem shooting at f16-f22. Dust spots are much more noticeable than F8-F11, but sometimes you just need to stop down to get that lower shutter speed. Depth of field usually isn't an issue for me but I usually shoot at around F11-F13 just to be safe. At 14mm, and focused at or near the hyperfocal, you don't need to stop down very much to get a very large depth of field.

14mm if you focus around 4 feet @ F5.6 you get depth of field of 2 feet to infinity. I usually still stop down to F8 at the minimum though to get better corner sharpness.
