p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Volleyball: Provincial Championship U16 Girls

I'm continuing my efforts to shoot my daughter's VB. This latest batch is from our Provincial Championships this past weekend. The more I shoot VB, the more it seems like fun rather than frustration. I would have never said that last year. So, my advice to anyone struggling with VB is to keep at it. I still have lots to improve upon but my success/keeper rate is at least 10-20 times better than last year.

A few more. Oh, and WBing was strictly forbidden at this tourney.

Nice set, Larry. 1 & 4 + the jube shots for me.

As much as I love my 1D4, it makes it tough to not lust after the 1DX for volleyball!

Thanks for your picks Jay (and double thanks for not giving me my always needed but completely pointless WB-slap).

For volleyball, I'm not sure you would see much benefit in going from the 1D4 to a 1DX.........unless having every shot in perfect focus is of value to you.

Kidding of course, but the 1DX really is an amazing machine. It doesn't miss that often and it will frequently astound me at how fast I can swing the camera and still have it lock on target (i.e. typical volleyball shooting). Unfortunately, I have no experience with the 1D4 for comparison.

Just realized I grab the wrong number on one of them. Edited the picks on my comment to correct...

What setup are you using for these shots? My daughter is just starting volleyball and I am looking for a lens for taking good pictures of her. I also will need it for taking pictures at night high school football games of my son and also of my kids in band.

Thank you

Thanks again Jay!

Duncan, these were all shot with a Canon 1Dx using a 70-200 2.8, 24-70 2.8,and 200 1.8.

Not sure where I lost my EXIF. Anyways, for what you are describing, the 70-200 2.8 would be a great starting point, although it will be a little short for football.

Thanks for your comments Paul!

I'm throwing up two more to see if I can figure out where I'm losing my exif data. Show Exif box ticked in both cases.
