This shot is way out of my comfort zone. Not only because of the black and white processing, but because of the rushed and unplanned manner I captured it in. I'm so used to having a location and compositions scouted out in advance, so when the light hits I usually know what shots I will get and where I need to run to. When I saw this little patch of stone light up I had all of 60 seconds to unpack my camera, find a comp, and shoot before the sun got too high and ducked behind the morning haze. Even though this doesn't have the vibrant colours that I love so much in past shots, and a pre-planned vision in mind, I still love it.

Thanks for looking and any feedback you can give!

Hey Justin,

The rush of adrenaline can be a bit crazy in those moments when you have stumbled upon something unexpected and you realize that the light is fleeting and you may only have seconds or minutes to capture it. But you did well, and that comes from knowing your gear, knowing what it can capture and how. And then the instincts just go do it. I like this toned look, very nice indeed.

Jim

Thanks guys. I definitely focused on studying what the light was doing near the horizon for the rest of the trip because of this shot. This was taken the first sunrise we had, so I have at least a couple more with direct low lighting to come.

I find the unplanned to be the best, at least in my life
And this is certainly a proof for that!

Well done Justin!

Cheers!
