p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Requesting C&C on car photo attempt!

Awesome works on this section of FM! I was drooling over some or the images in the Automotive thread, but decided to not hijack that thread for my own use :-P

Got out and shot some this weekend... Would love to get some feedback!! This is my first real attempt at shooting cars, so please be gentle!

Specifically, I'd love to hear comments comparing between 2&3, and between 4-6, since those are very similar shots, and general C&C on the rest!

All done with a Nikon D800E, and a Sigma 85mm f/1.4. Natural light. Briefly processed in LR5.

Thanks

Aspinwall (I live in Highland Park)? I really like the location, but maybe it is too interesting for the subject? Also the colors of the car and the girders are too similar and don't offer enough contrast to really draw you into the car. Regardless, I like how 2 & 4 turned out.

Haha, YES! That's the train tracks at Aspinwall. Tartan? Are you a CMU alum?

Thanks for the contrast comment. I'll try to pick a different setting next time that would not detract from the car... I honestly didn't think about the grey girders on the grey car! Thanks!

I agree with Tartan. I do like #2.

I think 3's better than 2 due to the isolation of the car in the bright area of the frame and the division of the frame between light and dark.

If you're going to shoot in natural light, pick better natural light Lots of overexposed areas, lots of CA to fix in post, etc.

Thanks, everyone, what I've been hearing a lot of, is the high contrast and over-exposure in the backgrounds are distracting.

Would it help #2 if the left side was cropped?

Hah - no, not a CMU alum - just a tag I've used for a long time based on something else entirely.

Yes.

The right side on #1 is also very distracting to me.
