ShutteredMe - Thanks - awesome shots man! I'll bet that little tern was TOUGH - I've tried 'em before, still working on getting a shot like that. They are FAST buggers.

Thank you Steve. Yes those Terns are fast takes a lot of clicks to get a good one..
Been using your Web Sharpen actions. Fantastic actions! Thank you so much for sharing that.

My best lens when using with a x2TC (better than my 200/2 !) :

D800, 600 VR+TC-20EIII, @f/8.

A crazy (and forced) experiment with an unusual combo:
TC-16A teleconverter autofocusing for a AF-S lens!
My 600/4 AF-S II chip isn't communicating properly with TC14E or TC17E converters (!!!), so a meantime solution was to leave lens at MF and use a modded TC16A!

You need to manual prefocus roughly and then the TC-16A made fine autofocus.
Focus is surprisingly responsive and accurate after I made an af-tune for the combo to (-8).
Exif shows 145mm lens and f/ stops not multiplied by 1.6.

I do a fair share of birding here (something I've just started this year) and I realize as we all do, there are 80% that won't hit the post-processing point, and that 20<> that will.

That being said.. Steve Perry's images must be one hell of a decision making process to filter. Never fails, thread after thread, image after image. Steve never fails to MAKE ME want to stare and look at these images. There is a definite constant flow and look to all of these which is tough considering the variety and backgrounds... And I'm just gob stopped at all of them.

If you ever need inspiration.. or need your ego placed in check. 4 or 5 of those images will set you right either way. Humbled beyond belief, and thankful we get to see these.

I don't get around here too much but saw this thread. Yes indeed the 600vr is a killer lens, got mine the first day it came out. Enjoyed the images here, I'll post a few of mine. I am now looking forward to a new lighter 600VR which I am sure will be around the corner now that the new 400VR has been announced..

Some of the older ones with the D3....

A couple more recently with D4

Great lens indeed.

I kept telling myself, "Do Not look at this thread, do not look at this thread". But I went ahead and did it, and now I'm wanting a 600mm in the worst way. Maybe I could sell a kidney...and a lung. Of course, having the lens still wouldn't give me images like you guys are producing.

Just wanted to say that you guys have posted some unbelievably wonderful images.
