p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Mount Rainier

I just returned from a few months out in WA state. I was very busy for most of the trip, but occasionally got out on weekends. One of my goals for the trip was to get a halfway-decent shot of Mount Rainier, but it just never seemed to work out that I had the right conditions at a time where I had my camera and the ability to get to a decent vantage. Sunday was my very last opportunity, but the weather report was grim. I drove out that way hoping against hope that the forecast would prove wrong, and sure enough the skies opened up and I was granted good shooting conditions. This is a view of Rainier from the south, and I tried to get something a little different than what one usually sees of her.

EDIT:
A different comp, shot a few minutes earlier.

This works quite well in black and white. I like the drama presented here.

Nice work.

The first one has more impact for me. I love your BW conversion. A dramatic and excellent image.

I really like both and would love to frame the 2nd. Very dramatic!

They both have their own separate qualities. The first looks as if a large black cloud is moving in on the last small patch of clear sky, while the second has a lighter mood to it with a small while cloud hovering over the mountain. Nice work in both respects.

The B&W gives this an ominous feeling. Suddenly reminded how much of the mountain is hard black rock.

I would agree the first one seems to have a lot better balance even though both are using thirds quite well. I can't wait for my 50 mile trail run there in July.

Love them both!
I would remove those dust spots in the clouds though...
