Thank you Paul,

Happy you like it. I enjoy that lens and need to learn how to take advantage of its strengths, one of which is not being razor sharp at or near wide open. Also, it is strictly MF which serves to cause me to think more than usual

Regards,

Bob

Thanks Ryan,

The 23mm, from my experiences, is superb. I used it and the 35mm/1.2 R at a wedding and both offered sharpness that I could not obtain with a D7100 with an 18-55mm f/2.8 Nikkor mounted. Forced to use the D7100 for flash That said, still the AF speed and processing speed of the D7100 run circles around the XP-1 - there is a certain satisfaction level there. No idea how an XT-1 might compare (and don't want to know re possible GAS attack)?

The difference in sharpness is apparent comparing the two images - the Nikkor was tops in its day (~ 1970s) and now offers a kinder, softer rendition in comparison, I love its feel and scalloped rings.

Too, I am amazed at the very minor distortion, if any, of both the 14mm and 23mm. Generally the 23mm stays mounted.

Probably TMI

Regards,

Bob

I'm a fan of the droplets, Bob! And I also am a fan of the somewhat darker toning here, too.

Number 2 for sure! What lens were you using? A 50mm ƒ/1?

Douglas,

Thank you, the near edge of the blossom was damaged, hence the OOF. At this time not a wide selection.

Bob

Thanks,

Glad you like the images, I think grain adds to images on occasion - see my comments to Tim, below.

Thanks again,

Bob

Tim,

I appreciate for your comments.

Interesting the preferences on BWV versus Photo Critique, where 'grain' and the darker processing go wanting.

Bob

Thanks for your comment.

Lens? - 50mm, f/1.4 vinatge (~1970s) Nikkor (Nippon Kogaku prior to renaming company to Nikon) mounted on X Pro-1. Since it is totally manual, no information is reported to camera and f1 is inserted into the Exif data. Fuji has menu options to select the FL (hard-coded in essence) for inclusion. In this instance I believe the aperture was f/2.2 or 2.8 given the visible DOF.

Regards,

Bob

Lovely rose shots, Bob! I particularly like #2 although were I to nit a teeny bit, I would suggest burning in a little of the background above the rose itself so that nothing at all distracts the eye. Regardless, both are beautiful and I particularly like the slight sepia tone.

All the best,

Endre

Really like these Bob! The second is better in my opinion because the bloom is facing more towards me. I also prefer the better connection it makes with the stem slightly visible, so it has less of a “floating” effect. Nice work!
