Some Canon lenses have rectangular rear baffles for optimizing the 36 x 24 rectangle (mm; 1.5 x 1.0 inch).
I doubt very much aspherical lens have any rectangular aspect to them because of the aspherical shape.
The asphericality refers to the curvature of the element not being an outer slice from a sphere (conceptually) but being a slice from a shape with a different curvature. The outer perimeter of the lens element is still a circle.

To my understanding, an aspherical lens is shaped to take advantage of the specific 2x3 frame (for 35mm cameras) and only that frame. So if you turned the lens in the bayonet mount and take a photo before it's all the way mounted and after it is, they should be different images.
I don't think you will be able to provide a credible reference for that.
