p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · What are your shooting goals this wedding season?

I've been setting shooting goals for myself the past couple years. 2013 my goal was to concentrate on my exposures and keeping them consistent, along with white balance. Since then I've been shooting manual mode & manual WB and I can usually get my exposures right within the first 2-3 shots when changing locations. I also focused on my LR editing preset. I'm at the point now where most of my images need minor adjustments in LR.

2014 my focus is going to be posing, both couples (B&G, e session) and groups. In addition to that, I plan on focusing on capturing moments. Last wedding I spent some time just waiting for different things to happen instead of just constantly shooting. I'm working on getting a composition in mind, then sitting waiting for things to happen.

Using unique ambient lighting or framing to create awesome backgrounds.

Like you, I'd also like to get better at posing. But in 2014, there certainly are a lot of clients who don't want to pose AT ALL.

It is what it is.

I literally feel like you were in my head. This is exactly what I have been working on word for word this season for myself.

Working on consistency through out the day.
For me, having the thought of 'finding the light' in the back of my mind.

Keep working towards finding my style. Not forcing it but let is come out on how I see the day.

Find the path to getting my gear lighter, smaller and more mobile.

I need to walk into a scenario and know exactly how I want to light it. I'm finding more and more that many receptions don't offer me enough time to setup because I'm out doing portraiture until 3 minutes before the couple walks through the doors and into the party, so I scramble to set up my lighting.

I need to take a step back, picture the scene, and then also figure out what will be most flattering and most exciting.

Also, work-life balance. I really need to get that sorted. I'm still working on it. But we're about 25% of the way through the season and I'm actually feeling pretty good thus far.

My honest goal for 2014 is to be able to shoot a wedding from top to bottom without using any digital cameras and then handle all processing and scanning on my own. I would love to make prints too but my house doesn't have an extra room

2013, I spent really incorporating more direct/dramatic lighting into my photography. This involved a lot of direct posing and I feel like some of the emotional purity I initially started with has been harder to come by. So one aspect that I'd like to focus on is to get more personality out of my clients and essentially get "back to basics" on the portraiture side of things.

Everything else is just a constant review/tweak of process. With 30 weddings this year, I hope to become much more consistent with each wedding and get better at coordination/planning/efficiency.

Not totally suck at portraits/engagments/posing.

A low bar, but I have a ways to go...

Do you LIKE shooting dancing pics? Those are my least favorite part of the day.
