GHOSTS in CANYONLANDS!

When you go to Moab, UT, you will go to Canyonlands National Park. When you go to Canyonlands, you will go to Mesa Arch. Not False Kiva! (Some people don't like the idea!)

Mesa Arch spans about 25 meters and stands at the edge of the plateau, 1862m above the sea level in the Islands in the Sky region of the Canyonlands National Park.

Now again, when you are at the Mesa Arch, early in the morning, before the sunrise, you will see tons of photographers shoulder to shoulder.

Now again, after shooting Mesa Arch itself, you will probably wonder around if there are anything else to SHOOT! When you go closer to the edge, you discover the spectacular views over Colorado River gorge and some very prominent rocks in the valley 600 meters below. BUT! Don't jump off the cliff just because you didn't get those glorious shots with the best show-off quality sunstars!

Those prominent rocks are: Washer Woman Arch, Monster Tower and Airport Tower in the short distance.

They are -- "Ghosts of Canyonlands".

La Sal Mountains fill the horizon and complete this majestic scenery.

Story just goes on and on..

For the image I am posting, I purposely darkened and converted to black and white.. BUT up-close! I never get afraid of ghosts! Never!

Enjoy!

PS: I am adding one more somewhat pleasant ghost shot in color.

The Ghosts! In dark!

The pleasant ghosts.. in color!

I like this a lot, and have never seen quite the same presentation.

Kind of better mood this afternoon after a good friend of mind gave me his wise advice.

I am adding another shot of Washer Woman Arch, Monster Tower and Airport Tower, in color, in the main posting.

I much prefer the colour version. The BW version is far too gray for my tastes. A more contrasty version could work though.

Hello Don,

Thanks for your comment.
Actually, color is my preference too. I just wanted to make the scene fit to my title.

Kee: Haze is often a problem after sunrise in that area, so the color version is challenged. But to me the b/w makes the best use of the layers. And I like the old-timer look as well.

Kee,
I think it's interesting what you're trying to do do with the B&W conversion.
To me it's a bit muddy- but I'm a contrast freak.
It might be more interesting if you added a couple of different versions of the conversion- for your and our comparison.

Cool shots. I like the B/W version. It looks quite spooky.

I agree, the BW is kinda flat, the color is much better!

I like the comp, but for those towers by themselvesI think more of a sunset light would give better contrast and detail.
