Possible trade off for losing 40HP in my 4.0L Xterra...

Crackup. One of the reasons I like living where I do is the dense, moist air... and driving a turbocharged car, that +40HP!

A worthwhile trade-off Will, and stunning images. A pro. at work/play. Work those jpegs, baby.

Thank you, Kit. Yeah, I remember the first time my crotch rocket saw sea level...
what a treat!! Appreciate the kind words, take care.

I digress. Nice shootin'/colors, Will. Thanks, Dennis!

Couple questions, if I may...

Does the D7000 have the capability to flash sync at 1/320 like the D300?
Yes (e1) just not the pop-up. I might use flash 2x a year...might.
And, that shutter is pretty quiet, right? Is there a Quiet mode? If so, even quieter?
It's not too bad. Yeah, a little...but it slows ya down some.

Off topic sidebar: for the D70s, try AutoWB -2 and Hue -6. I found these settings on dpreview back in the day and

Never had one ^ but thanks much for posting the tweak...

I used some of Trenchmonkey's special JPEG sauce this weekend skiing. It's kind of liberating to shoot JPEG only, the buffer is much bigger and clears faster. I had a hard time with exposure in the snow but that's always been challenging.

I added some of my special sauce to the kit this weekend, as you know the D7000 is weather sealed.

Where might one purchase this special sauce that you speak of? Is there a sauce for each camera? Other words, D7K sauce is different from a D3 sauce from a D2x sauce?

Thanks,
Jeff

Great set Will! I would've kept the D7000 a bit more if mine didn't backfocus as much, it needed -20 adjustment on pretty much all my lenses of the time to work well. I kept it a month then upgraded to a D600. The DR, IQ and High ISO is exceptionally good in it! Specially for the price tag! I've had some amazing portraits on my D5100 however with that sensor, currently looking for one to use as a second angle for video!

thanks! Sounds like my D800 ...it was prit near at limits 'til I played around with default values.
Now it's perfect with all my glass. These bodies are pretty freakin' adjustable, I love the sensor(s) so I was
willing to put in the work necessary to "git 'em right" Nobody else makes a body I can print 200% crops with.

Thanks to Will and the sharing of information and pictures on this thread, I got myself a D7000 body at a fair price from a local guy. He advertised it on Craigslist. I recently sold my two Nikon D300 bodies. Now, I have the D7000 and F100 with a pair of lenses; Nikon 85mm F1.8G and 50mm F1.8G. I will be getting a wide to go with that kit.

My pleasure, William
I was out my back gate yesterday morning, with the lowly 70-300 VR.
You know, the one that's terrible at 300mm?? The D7K managed to
coax some love out...maybe I'll keep it?!

Ok
will I just pulled the trigger on a d700 referb to replace my d300. Hopping it makes my 300 f4 do things like yours.

More D7000 luv. Took my D7000 out to grab a few pics of the Blue Angels flying in Kingsville TX recently. Unfortunately, no clear blue skies and puffy white clouds. Ugly hazy sky with some smoke thrown in. D7K with an old 300 f4 non-AFS lens.

I used the special JPEG settings today for the first time in anger, for some lacrosse. Here is the cool thing about JPEG only, I no longer run out of buffer at the decisive moment. Shooting RAW when the buffer runs out I was missing key shots. JPEG only the D7000 buffer becomes unlimited. The sun kept coming & going behind clouds and I had to avoid the bane of my existence, porta-potties. Somehow they sneak into shots. I have some tweaking to do but these are SOOC, some cropping.

Took this last Wednesday with the D7000 and an old Nikkor 55mm f/1.2 @f/1.2. Saxophone neck from a sax that was played during the 30's and 40's.

Well, I ended up picking up a used D7000 as a backup/2nd body alongside my D7100. So far so good!
