I recently purchased the Nikon 300mm F2.8G VR II and this is the sharpest lens I have ever shot with. Wide open, this lens is amazing. My recent star test with the lens showed me that there was no CA or Coma in the optics...That is impressive. I took it out today to Pedernales falls State park and photographed birds from inside a bird blind...they had photo windows, I did not shoot through the glass. All were at 300mm, no TC. I can't believe that this lens is this sharp wide open on my D800. Crazy cool!

In case some of you missed it, here is the star test I got with the 300mm. This is an untouched image and the exposure time was 30 seconds at f/2.8! WOW, no CA, No Coma. Even the stars in the extreme corners are round and of the same quality as those in the center.
