p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Fjui X for time lapse - battery life?

Am doing some small time lapse stuff and wonder about using a Fuji X Pro-1 or similar for this type of work.

Main concern is the battery life. Having to sit close and monitor batteries that won't go more than a few hundred shots without needing a change is something I am not sure of.

Anyone more familiar through experience on how this effects the work flow?

Better off with an xt1 as it turns on, takes the shot then turns off till the next one.

I since sold my XT1, but I believe on that model that when doing the internal timer with long gaps between shots that the camera can turn itself off, then power back up to take the shot, which is pretty clever implementation.

XPro doesn't have this feature or any interval shooting options for that matter

In doing time lapse turning the camera on and off repeatedly is not too likely.

With an X-Pro1 I can use the cable release rather than another electronic toy.

Am looking at how the low capacity battery problem might be overcome.

I wouldn't say it so much turns the camera on and off, but rather goes in and out of sleep mode, so you can preserve battery life.

I think its pretty darn likely that is how it works as I recall the feature pretty well and Ian, who's likely got the camera right in front of him stated this as well.

I do have an XPro sitting here on my desk and while you can indeed use a cable release to trigger the camera, your still going to run into battery issues because when the camera is on, the sensor feed is active (even with OVF active) and its drawing power. Doesn't really matter how you trigger the shutter, still going to suck current the whole time.

XT1 is by far the best bet for time lapse, or at least extended period time lapses

Yup. X-T1 for sure. As mentioned, if the gap is 30 seconds or longer, it goes to sleep between shots. Should be able to get quite a lot of photos on a battery that way.
