I use my right eye, left eye stays open. I am a completely left-handed person, also (how do you not constantly poke yourself in the face with a thumb if your left eye is looking through the viewfinder? )

I use my left eye, and don't recall any time I poked myself in the face with my thumb. I have a long nose, so perhaps that keeps the camera away and gives room for the thumb? So maybe a prerequisite for using the left eye is that you have a long nose .

Good to know! I've tried the left eye a few times, being a leftie and all.....and have awkwardly stabbed my finger in my face every time

I usually only keep one eye open. I have a hard time focusing in when I have both open, though I've heard many say that this is a bad habit.

I've always used one eye, but after reading this thread, I will try two from now on. Never thought about it

I lost interest in hunting many years ago, but I was raised to use both eyes when shooting with a scope - orient with the left, acquire and target through the scope with the right.

I would have assumed the same would apply with a camera but for some reason, it's never felt natural and I tend to close my left, sight through the viewfinder with my right.

I've no idea why both eyes open feels so fluent with a rifle and not with a camera.

My intent is always to keep both eyes open, the non-viewfinder one helps in overall composition. In practice, I always squeeze my non-EVF eye shut. Conditioning, I guess...

I'm left eyed. I suppose that is unusual. The right eye can't really see anything from behind the camera, so open or closed doesn't matter. I wouldn't overdo closing it, screwing up my face or something.

Not really.

Here's the breakdown from a left eye/hand vs. right eye/hand poll that I did a few years ago, and summarized earlier in this thread*,

Left eyed = 47%
Left handed = 13%

(total of 321 responses)
