Just curious... anyone had issues with customs when flying with one of these?

It's probably the fins that bother TSA. I have a "Hurricane" that looks like a doodad for baby enemas and TSA doesn't give rat's tail about it.

Haven't heard of that. Who makes those?

Yes I have, more than once. Enough in fact that I now carry another brand with me when I travel - looks exactly the same but no fins - and doesn't work quite as well.

They've torn my luggage apart to get to it when I check it, and they've asked me to prove what it was when carrying it with my camera as carry-on. I almost didn't get on with it once when it was carry on. That's what made me try checking it instead. Both medium and large size - makes no difference.

Yes, it's the fins. But the TSA is easily freaked and flying is bad enough, so why push it?

I think in fact the other brand I have IS a hurricane - and I think it's made by "promaster". It seems that the rubber is a little thinner - but it could be my imagination. The red tip apparently doesn't scare them.

[edit] I've gone through so many of these I forget which I've got any more. The other one I've got is a Zeikos, the red tip one melted (hot car in summer). The Hurricane I see here looks different than I remember -so maybe I had a tornado? http://www.amazon.com/Precision-Design-Deluxe-Hurricane-Blower/dp/B0012S1R7E/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1397450726&sr=8-2&keywords=hurricane+blower

Why would they have any troubly/issues with customs

I have been flying hundreds of times with one, without any "issues"

Did you mean TSA instead of customs?

Have flown with the large few times domestic and international as carry on. Someone advised me to put it in a ziploc in checked bag with a nice friendly note but I figured it would be easier showing a tsa agent what it is in person as they can clearly see all my camera gear in my carry on bag. So far, never been an issue or a discussion about it.

It's a problem with TSA security at USA airports. The rest of the world doesn't care. TSA is an organization that wastes time taking away your bottled water, coffee or flask, albeit you can buy all the water, coffee or booze once inside the "secure" area.

Why don't he put it in the check in bag and all the problems are gone

Bottled water and the other stuff, will not be allowed in any airport. So that's not a USA thing.

Mine was confiscated by TSA. Cost me some $16.00 at the time to buy another one.

Such posts are a sad indictment on the culture and efficacy of so-called security.

Things happen when you give someone a lot of authority and little salary. It is a problem here in the US.

TSA took away my french fries and touched my arse while wearing rubber gloves. Apparently the zipper on my pocket confused their body scanner.

Why were you wearing rubber gloves?

Just tell them the device is used to shove up your ass and suck out all the explosives you've hidden in there. Then fart and light a match!

Yeah.... not a bad idea at all! I'll be in an area that canned air is for the most part unavailable... so this will be important to have.

Or, more seriously, separate the red tip and store it elsewhere. The perceived visual might then not look that scary to those morons.
