Two images of the same portion of a sandstone wall in Valley of Fire, NV. Can't decide between the two.... The element of 3 is appealing, whereas the closure up view in the cropped version sort of grabs me also. Maybe it doesn't matter one bit so I will post both. Feel free to comment, vote, laugh out loud or whatever. Now, I am getting out to the Columbia Gorge because it is sunny with a forecast of 75 degrees!!!

I see your dilemma. Each has its strong points. The 3some has "harmony", for lack of a better word. Things seem better in odd numbers. The 2some has its own strengths: closer view, better able to see what makes up the wall, vaguely erotic too, if you know what I mean....

So, unable to help much, except to say, nice work!

No 2 reminds me of an Elephants face! Thats what I would call it anyway.

I think these would be even better with a slight pulling down of the mid tones.

I would prefer the first image, not cropped down image. More stable and not pulling my mind either.
Great color rendition.

Which trail head is that on? We are going to Valley in early July for the first time.

Thanks

See your dilemma. Agree that the mid tones could be pulled down a little. I would have tried a single, maybe the one on the left, all alone filling about 2/3 of the frame. But it boils down to personal choice I guess. Interesting place, though.

Hey Mike,

They both work for me, but like Nigel I think if you pulled down the midtones just a bit, it would really make these stand out.

I visited Valley of Fire for the first time last week. Wonderful place, full of opportunities. You seem to have found a great subject.
My preference goes to the first image. Underexposing a tad or pulling down the midtones as Neil suggested will bring more contrast/colors to this image.
Best,
Fred

Ok Neil, Fred, etc. I did as suggested and I do think the colors and contrast are improved.
